Couple of years ago I had to spend my weekend away from home since the travel agent booked me on waiting list (without telling me). I guess he was assuming that by the time I'll reach the airport everything will be fine, but it didn't.

When I arrive to the check-in counter I was told I have no seat on the flight (as I was booked on WL) and the next avilable free seat is only the next day. not only that I had to search for an hotel (and pay it) but I also lost the connection flight and had to stay the weekend away from my family.

Never cound on your travel agent. always make sure your flight is reconfirmed prior to your arrival to the airport.
